This creates a very comfortable balance for outdoor weddings, beach ceremonies, and nighttime receptions.

Another major advantage of getting married during these months is that Riviera Maya beaches are usually free of sargassum seaweed, meaning the Caribbean water tends to look especially clear, turquoise, and photo-ready — something many couples dream of for their wedding photos and wedding films.

After the holiday season in late December, this period is also considered relatively low season for tourism. Beaches are generally less crowded, which can make a big difference if your wedding venue includes a beachfront ceremony or reception area with public beach access nearby. We usually recommend scheduling the ceremony early enough, between 4:00 pm - 4:30 pm to allow plenty of daylight not only for the ceremony itself, but also for the romantic couple portraits that typically take place right afterward during golden hour.

March, april & may:

March marks the beginning of sargassum season in Riviera Maya, Cancun, and Tulum. One important thing to know is that sargassum can be very unpredictable. Some years, only small amounts arrive, while in other years there can be significantly more seaweed on the beaches.

Over the last couple of years, many resorts and wedding venues in Riviera Maya have become much more prepared for sargassum season by installing offshore barriers designed to reduce the amount of seaweed reaching the shore. Depending on the hotel, these barriers can make a very noticeable difference, helping beaches look much cleaner and allowing for beautiful, clean-looking wedding photos and wedding films despite the season.

Temperatures also begin to rise during March, with daytime weather averaging around 29°C (84°F) and evenings cooling down to approximately 20°C (68°F). The weather is still generally very comfortable for destination weddings, outdoor receptions, and beach ceremonies.

April usually brings very similar weather conditions, although it is important to consider that some weeks can become windier, especially near the beach. For couples planning a beachfront wedding ceremony in Cancun, Tulum, or Riviera Maya, this is something worth discussing with your hairstylist and wedding planner in advance.

Another important factor during March, April, and May is the change in sunset timing and golden hour lighting. Golden hour usually happens between approximately 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM, while sunset typically occurs around 7:10 PM to 7:20 PM.

During June and July, temperatures usually reach highs of around 90°F (32°C) during the day, while evenings cool down slightly to around 73–79°F (23–26°C). These months begin to bring more frequent tropical showers, although rain is often short and passes quickly. The combination of warm temperatures and occasional rain creates much higher humidity levels throughout the region.

These months are also considered part of the busy travel season, since many people begin taking summer vacations. Resorts, beaches, and popular wedding venues in Cancun, Tulum, and the Riviera Maya tend to have much more activity and tourism during this time. In the wedding industry, June and July are also very popular months for destination weddings in Mexico. August remains very warm, with temperatures averaging around 90°F (32°C) during the day and approximately 75°F (24°C) at night. However, this month usually brings a much higher chance of rain and increased humidity. While weather in the Caribbean is always somewhat unpredictable, late August is commonly considered the beginning of hurricane season in the Riviera Maya and Cancun area. That said, it is important to mention that most resorts and wedding venues are extremely well prepared for these situations.

If a tropical storm or hurricane is forecasted, hotels typically move wedding celebrations indoors to covered venues or backup locations to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort. Most resorts already have contingency plans in place for rain or severe weather, which helps weddings continue smoothly even during unexpected conditions.

One of the biggest things couples should consider during June, July, and August weddings in Tulum, Cancun, or the Riviera Maya is the humidity. September is typically the month with the highest probability of rain in the Riviera Maya, Cancun, and Tulum area. Temperatures remain very similar to August, usually reaching around 90°F (32°C) during the day, with warm and humid evenings.

Although tropical showers are more common during this month, rain is often unpredictable and can pass quickly, sometimes leaving behind beautiful skies and dramatic sunsets that are perfect for wedding photography and videography.

September is also considered part of the low season in the Riviera Maya. Because of this, beaches and resorts are often less crowded, hotels may feel quieter, and there is generally less tourism throughout the area. For some couples, this creates a more private and relaxed atmosphere for destination weddings in Mexico.

October and November are still considered part of the rainy season in Cancun, Tulum, and the Riviera Maya. November also marks the final stretch of hurricane season in the Caribbean.

However, by November, the weather usually begins to feel noticeably cooler, drier, and more comfortable as the region transitions into winter. Average daytime temperatures are around 82°F (28°C), while evenings can cool down to approximately 66–68°F (19–20°C).

This creates a much fresher atmosphere compared to the summer months, sometimes with light winds and lower humidity levels, making November one of the most comfortable months for outdoor weddings in the Riviera Maya.
